Mommies on a Mission
Saturday Morning.
The scene: everyone sitting around in the den. Olivia playing with her dolls. Jake and Emma hangin' out in their car seats. Cin and me drinking coffee.
Me: What do you want to do today?
Cin: I dunno. Ummmm. Let's do Olivia's play yard.
Me: What?
Cin: I wanna make it bigger and move the swings so she has more room to run around and play. Then we'll be ready when we get a bigger swingset.
Me: Uh, OK.
So it began. We called to order and schedule delivery of more rubber mulch for later that afternoon, then got the family together and headed out to get the wood for the frame. When we got home with the lumber, the work began.
This is the before shot
I had to disassemble the old frame while Cindy got out the saw to cut the wood for the new frame. And, of course, OG was nearby with her trusty hammer just in case.
The mulch came. It was the Supersack - and was it ever. It was ginormous.
Then I started putting together the new frame. Once it was up, we began to spread the mulch - what a freakin' (translation for the Utah-ites - flippin') huge job that was.
Then it was getting dark, so we called it quits for the night and had some dinner.
A special thanks to Gale (aka BM - birthmother) for coming over and entertaining our 3 little helpers and grilling up a feast for dinner. XXXOOO.
We woke up this morning and got right to work. Well, not really. We sat around, had some coffee. Gale came and picked up OG and they went to the pool. Then we went out to put on the final touches, moved OG's playhouse back into the new play area and cleaned up. Then BM and OG came home, we had lunch, Olivia went for a nap, Gale left, we put the babies to sleep and my girl crashed. Game OVER!
Our next project is to build a tree house on that beautiful tree in the play area. J - we may need some help! K - you too - homemade lemonade and no bake peanut butter cookies?

Great looking play area!
HEY !!!!! I PAINT, HAMMER, USE A SCREW DRIVER, MEASURE, SAW (simple cuts), CLIMB ON LADDERS, HOLD STUFF. I am a VERY good helper.
I am more than just a baker of really awesome cookies doncha know.
Looks good. That rubber bark stuff looks HOT and MESSY. Is it ?
Thanks, Nailgirl - we love it.
KJ - I KNOW YOU DO ALL THAT STUFF! I just thought we'd need someone to take care of our bellies and we definitely can't leave it to Cin, and I don't know about Jan!
The rubber mulch doesn't heat up, though I can't figure out why. We've had it for 2 years and I haven't felt it get hot yet, maybe because that area has only filtered sun. Messy? No way! We tried regular mulch and the kids always ended up so dirty. This is spic and span.
Wow! You guys rock! How the hell you accomplish all of that with three little ones amazes me. I can't even keep the freakin', yes freakin', house clean!
It looks awesome!
You guys aren't much for a relaxing weekend are you?!?!
I'm sure K is a VERY good helper. But I'm needing to try those no bake peanut butter cookies. Sounds yummy.
It looks great! Way to go ladies:)
Wow - Awesome!!
We wish we could do in our backyard but our HOA wouldn't let us :o(
We love rubber mulch. Easy to take care of...
I figured since I have professed my love for you on KJ's blog that I should delurk myself on yours. Have been reading for some time and enjoy the entries. My partner and I are in a similar boat to yours- 3 year old daughter and 19 month old girl/ boy twins.
I totally love that you two just looked at the day and decided to work on a project. We are planners but the plans never get all the way done. Kids just keep seeming to get in the way. I am sure you understand.
Amy - thanks for showin' up. The whole lurking thing is very exciting for me. I never had a stalker before. Cool!
Yeah, kids get in the way, but I'm getting used to it. I didn't realize that I was on a vacation for 2 1/2 years with only 1 child.
Your kids are close together - how is that for you? Do you stay home? Work? Where do you live? Who the hell are you? Have I earned a spot on your list? can I read your blog? Let me in!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can get to us from KJ's blog. I am Mama of "Twins and a Toddler". My partner is the blogger though. Every once in awhile I will do a post, but she is the wittier of the two of us.
They are 22 months apart which is good and hard all at the same time. We thought having one was hard until we had the twins. Whole new lesson is life having twins, as you know.
love the play area.. we dont ave one of those for our little one.. but she does hava play house and lots of cement to ride her tricycle.
Long time no talk!!!!
